Oh Pinterest...

Have you ever wondered if the things you see on Pinterest are true?  I LOVE Pinterest and I probably spend too much time "pinning" things, but there are some things that we need to discuss.

For example...

Whoever said putting a wooden spoon over a boiling pot would keep it from boiling over is an idiot.  I mean, I tried it... and then I felt like an idiot.  So just trust me on this one... it does NOT work.

I also hate seeing the pin below that claims to teach how to paint straight lines.

I wouldn't consider myself an expert on painting by any means, but I have painted before.  My dad taught me pretty much everything I know about painting and I painted most of our condo last summer - trim and all.  First off, if you want crisp lines, buy quality tape and a quality brush and don't glob the paint on the wall.  Secondly, in general, the trim is painted with oil-based paint and the wall should be painted with latex paint.  Usually, latex paint does not work over oil-based paint.  Some brands claim that it doesn't matter anymore, but for best results, don't try it.  If you look closely at the picture, you can see some effects from her method.

One pin that is genius is this:

Why have I never thought of this?  At first, Parker was like, "You'll never keep it like that," but taa-daa!
I went from two t-shirt drawers to one.  Don't judge me.  I love my t-shirts and I don't want to get rid of them.  And yes, I still have t-shirts from high school.

Moving right along... Another great idea:
toilet roll tubes used as gift wrap holders. Genius!

I did it and I love it.  Our Christmas wrapping paper from last year will be ready to go this year.

One of my *favorites* is the pin that says you can grow green onions in a glass.
Green onions - regrow

I don't know about you, but I have very few recipes that require green onions.  I know they are like $1 at the store, but I thought I'd try it out because you can chop them up and freeze/refrigerate them for later.
IT TOTALLY WORKS!  Way cool.

When I first saw the next idea, I thought, "Man what a great idea.  It looks so much neater that way!"
Sheets stored in their own pillow cases...genius.

Okay, I don't know what size pillow cases those are, but that is NOT what my attempt looks like.  See?
And that's with half of it folded under!

This pin claims to be the easiest DIY skirt in the world and it pretty much is.
a skirt for me!

I'm a self-taught sewer and I managed to make this:
It's a pink skirt with pockets.  I also made the same thing in red with a tie that you saw in this post.

The casserole dish carrier in that same post was also made by yours truly using this pin:

It is not for an impatient person to try.  I may or may not have thrown it on the floor at one point while working on it and I'm a pretty patient person.  However, it turned out just fine in the end... see?

Every time I see the next pin, I wonder what this person was thinking... and what people who pin it are thinking.  Seriously, who would do this?
Source
Why?  Why would anyone do this?  SMH.  The only time you should pin this is if it's to a board titled "Terrible Ideas."

I'd really like to know if this pin is true...
Cut an apple then put a rubber band around to keep it from turning brown
Source
It says if you put a rubber band around a sliced apple, it won't brown.  Has anyone tried it?  If it's true, then that is awesome.

What pins have you failed at, loved, or laughed over?
