March: In like a lion and... out like a lion??

Y'all.

March was something else.

We started the month with Ava Kate getting over RSV, which followed with her getting an GINORMOUS blister on her big toe from the way she army-crawled everywhere.  Let's just say, she was a bit fussy for a few days unless she was being held.  Poor thing.

The blister was followed with her having pink eye.  It was awful.  I think I washed my hands more that weekend than I did the entire month before combined.      She was pitiful.

Just so you know, when your child has pink eye, your house becomes a sanitizing hotspot.  I joked with my sister-in-law, Candice, that I wished you could get a sanitizing bag like the ones for bottles & pump parts that was big enough to put the entire house in.

Despite the extensive hand washing, I came down with a sore throat and fever virus the next week (although neither Parker nor I got the pink eye, thank goodness)!  I ended up having to leave work because of a 102 degree fever and feeling generally awful.  I had a beautiful view from the bed for a day or so.

Then, the following weekend, I became Super Woman and deep cleaned my house, made baby shower decorations, decorated, and made food for Candice's baby shower... all while taking care of Ava Kate by myself since Parker was chaperoning a youth retreat all weekend.  In writing it doesn't sound all that intense... but trust me... Super Woman is an appropriate name for all I did that weekend.  A post on her shower is coming soon! :)

Then, Parker was sick for about a week with a sore throat and throwing up... and then all of us took turns with major allergy issues.  Yay.  -_-

Toss in doing usual chores and lesson plans/grading for my classes and my BFF at school while she was on maternity leave... and well, that was March.  Hence the 3 lonely blog posts for an entire month.

PSA: I was just kidding about the bread.

You guys,  I need you to know that I was just kidding about the need for us to taste the bread at the grocery store before buying it.  It's called sarcasm people.  I didn't actually mean that we should taste the bread like some of you weirdos are tasting the grapes to see if they're good or not.

After seeing this at the grocery store today, I'm terribly afraid that someone took me seriously.  #HelpUsAll

Lists + Packing with a 6 month old

My type-A personality requires me to make lists.  Lots and lots of lists.  In fact, the Notes app is one of my favorite things.  It syncs with my phone, iPad, and Mac... and, if I want to, I can access it through my email too.  I have 23 running lists.  I know, it's an obsession.
I write lists on paper, too.  In fact, sometimes, I write something I've already done, just so I can mark it off.  And now I'm sure that you think I'm an obsessive weirdo.

Anyways.  Did you know that it is a task to pack for a 6 month old??  We went on a mini-beach-vacation with a bunch of friends from church this weekend and even though this is not the first weekend trip we've taken with Ava Kate, I still had to make a list like a week in advance so I wouldn't forget something.  She had 2 bags + the pack and play + portable high chair + diaper bag.  Parker & I had one bag combined.  LOL.

The Bookbook.... Love it!

If you haven't seen this IKEA commercial, you have to watch it.  As the wife of a man in the printing business, this makes me giggle!  Plus, I love sarcasm.  Obviously.

"Experience the power of the bookbook."  Ahh, I love it.

For all of you out there that are stealing the grapes!

People.  I think there's a good chance that some of you have resorted to opening the cinnamon (why is that word so hard to spell?) rolls and tasting them at the grocery store... you know, to make sure they taste okay before buying them.
Right?  Wait... you mean, people don't do that?  Of course they don't, because that would just be nuts!  But you know what people do do!?!?!  Apparently there is a whole cult of people who STEAL TASTE THE GRAPES!

Let me back up a minute.  One of my 2nd period students asked me if I'd ever stolen anything.  (Don't worry, it was a relevant question.  We were talking about misdemeanors and felonies in the criminal law unit.)  Anyways, this resulted in a follow up question: "Mrs. Morgan, you mean to tell me you've never opened up the grapes and ate one without buying them?"

Seriously?  I can honestly say that not only have I never done that, the thought has never even occurred to me to do it.  I really just thought my kids were pulling my leg because they all agreed that everyone eats a grape before deciding whether or not to buy them.

So, I did the obvious thing.  I asked my next period kids... and you know what?  THEY are stealing grapes too!

I AM IN ABSOLUTE SHOCK OVER HERE.  I have never heard of this.  I had no idea.

It seems to me that we would open the bread to taste it before buying it too.  Hey, why should we stop there?  Open up the chips or sodas or fruit-roll-ups for goodness sake!

After further investigation, it seems that even some of my adult friends taste the grapes!  How have I missed this??  Do y'all do this??

I feel like someone owes me a lot of grapes.  And now, I'll be extra diligent when I rinse them.

P.S.  If you do taste the grapes, please don't resort to tasting the cinnamon rolls.  Now that is just gross.

Random Rambles No. 2

Great news! Mom's most recent scans of her chest, abdomen, and pelvic regions showed no sign of cancer!  The spots on her brain are still there, but unchanged despite going untreated for several months.  We are very pleased and thankful!  The doctor found that she has a deficiency in Vitamin D which has caused her to experience fatigue, weakness, and muscle soreness.  She wrote her a prescription for a high dose of Vitamin D and said she should notice a huge difference soon.  We are so excited and relieved to hear this great report.

In other news, Parker & I have decided that the next home we buy will have the cabinets already painted or else we'll hire someone else to paint them... because I'm. Never. Painting. Cabinets. Again. Ever.  We both work 40 hours a week, so we've been painting in the evenings (the ones that don't have baseball or church softball games) and I'm so ready for it to be DONE.  It took a week to get wallpaper down, a week to fix the sheetrock/sand everything, a week to prime/paint the walls, and like 4,252,352 weeks to paint the cabinets.  Okay, maybe not that long.  (Don't forget the leak we encountered!)  We have the cabinets primed and painted, but now we've got to prime and paint the doors/drawers and touch up the cabinets in a few areas.  I can't wait to show you pictures of this tiny kitchen that is consuming our life :)

Have you ever seen the show "Renovation Realities?"  Boy, we could be on that show.  We'd make good TV I bet.

Speaking of TV, I'm going to need Grey's Anatomy to come back on.  Seriously.  It's so good.  I'm a new "Grey's" fan... I just started watching it this season (after like 9 seasons of being on air or something??!!), and I can totally see what the fuss is all about.  So. Good.

Mm k.  That's all for now.

Random Rambles No. 1

Man, (if I was a politically correct person, I would say "person" since "Man" is exclusive and all...) after finishing my paper at 3 am last night (yes, I know I should start on it sooner, but hello? I haven’t had time to work on it because of the other 1,023,423,497 things I’ve had to do), I was utterly exhausted! If I had it my way, I’d be in bed by 10:30 every night (yes, I know I’m in college, but I’m okay with being a loser), a girl needs her beauty sleep, right?

Anyways…
I actually woke up pretty well rested and went to class… though I considered turning in my paper and heading back to bed, I really wanted to do the Professor/Course evaluation for that class, but that’s a post for another day. Though I was feeling pretty rested, I was in quite the feisty mood today (in case you haven't already noticed).

For example, some guy in the quad was passing out pamphlets this morning. This is not unusual, but I really hate when people force you to take something that you’re going to throw away… I mean, just save a tree already. The guy prefaced the pamphlet with “Don’t you care enough to stop violence?” Okay, sure, I care about stopping violence, I’ll accept your little pamphlet thingy. Pause. It’s a pamphlet about becoming vegan. Hmm... nope, don’t care that much.

Fast forward to later… my friend Brittany and I were heading to pick up some lunch when vegan guy interrupts us. No I don’t want another one of your pamphlets about vegans and slaughter houses. I did not kill the animal, I simply ate an already cooked, dead animal… just like you are passing out paper that's on an already cut down tree. Besides, why let a good, cooked chicken go to waste when there are starving people in Africa? I’m sure they don’t think that eating chicken is violent. “Don’t you care enough to stop violence” Brittany and I: “NO!” And we proceed to Chick-fil-a. Seriously… we ate chicken nuggets.

**Just to defend myself, I really have nothing against vegans. I think it’s a noteworthy lifestyle, and I’m all for it if you want to do it, but it is definitely not for me.

Then, as I was walking into the restroom before class, I noticed that the sign said “Women’s Toilet.” Oh, just one toilet? I mean, really, who chose that sign? In fact, the restroom has several stalls, probably fifteen or more. With a toilet in each. As I was leaving, I saw across from me, “Men’s Toilet” Ha! Too bad they didn’t put "Urinal." Then, the following thought crossed my mind: These signs don’t even have Braille! Why I thought that I have no idea – it always bothers me when room signs have Braille because really? how would a blind person know that there was a sign there in the first place? Don’t believe me? – check it out sometime, you’ll see. But anyways – this thought alone tells me that I OBVIOUSLY need to get more sleep – I’m thinking off the wall thoughts. And with that said… I’m off to bed! (I just rhymed. In case you didn’t notice haha)
